Help your superfans help you

As an investor in over 70 startups, I need help keeping track of all the awesome they’re getting up to.

I ask portfolio company to maintain an opt-in mailing list — superfans@theirstartup.com — for friends, family, investors, and superfans who basically want to hear (and share!) all the good news and big updates a startup generates.

Whatever your project is, there are going to be a core group of people always willing to tweet or share an interesting update or new press hit — make it easy on them!

Here’s an example from Parkwhiz:

Because you’re connected to the company in some way, we thought you might like to keep up with the latest PW happenings.

For instance, yesterday we got a nice mention in Crain’s Chicago Business for our college football Parking Happiness Index infographic. Maybe you saw it, but in case you didn’t … well, now you know.

Here are the fan club “rules”:
* We won’t spam you; we’ll probably send 1 email per week on average
* If you’d rather not get emails like this, just reply and say so, and we won’t bother you any more
* On the other hand, if anything we send seems noteworthy, feel free to forward/share/tweet/+1/whatever about it to your own friends and associates. We’d appreciate it!
